The dates do not change the 2020-2021 school year calendar; all students will use the dates to learn from home and make up any assignments still pending their completion or review previously assigned videos and work.

Aldine ISD teachers are teaching, planning, and collaborating in many new ways, which is a time-intensive process. After hearing feedback from school leaders, staff, and the community, Aldine ISD has determined that one area in need of immediate attention is additional planning and preparation time for our classroom teachers.

“I appreciate everyone’s commitment to giving our students high-quality learning experiences. I know the pandemic has presented educators in Aldine and across the nation with challenges, but we are listening. We also know that it has been more difficult for some students to transition to our new ‘normal.’ To both teachers and students, we wanted to give them the gift of time. Teachers will have more time to plan, and students will have time to make up work and assignments that need to be completed and submitted,” said Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney.

The district has identified several dates for Remote Learning Days (learn from home) for all students (while all campus-based staff will report to school) to address the need for additional time.

“Please know, we heard the message loud and clear. Our teachers and campus staff need additional time to collaborate and plan. We also know that students’ time learning from home on Remote Learning Days will ensure grades are updated, and lesson plans are finalized,” said Aldine ISD Chief of Schools Katy Roede. “These Remote Learning Days will allow our teachers and staff to collaborate and plan in PLCs, communicate with students and parents regarding grades and missing assignments, and prepare for upcoming lessons and assessments. We hope that teachers accept this gift of time each month as a day specifically for them.”

Parents may contact the campus directly if there is a need for a student to be on campus during these designated Remote Learning Days.
