Students are heading to NATIONALS!

Our students have worked extremely hard in their CTSO’s.  The Career and Technical Student organization (CTSO) is an extracurricular organization for students in our 17 programs of study. It is an extension of the classroom and the lab that further students’ knowledge and skills by participating in activities, events, and competitions. There are currently five CTSOs recognized at Blanson.  They include Business Professionals of America (BPA), Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), HOSA–Future Health Professionals, Skills USA, and  Technology Student Association (TSA).

BPA’s (https://bpa.org/) mission “is to develop and empower student leaders to discover their passion and change the world by creating unmatched opportunities in learning, professional growth and service”. The organization motivates students to participate in professional, civic, service and social activities.

FCCLA (https://fcclainc.org/) is an organization grounded in the role of helping students to pursue careers that support families.

The global health organization, HOSA–Future Health Professionals promotes careers in the health industry. https://hosa.org/

SkillsUSA.org explains that Skills is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.

Technology Student Association (TSA) engages students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).https://tsaweb.org/tsa

Why CTSO’s

Enhancing student academic performance by providing real-world situations is what we do, and CTSOs play a significant role in making this happen as an extension of the classroom or lab. It’s beyond typical clubs and student organizations. It is a vital part of Blanson CTE and our core values. CTSOs improve communication skills, encourage and enhance collaboration skills, and  cultivates critical thinking skills.

The results are in!

This year many students advanced to state in almost every CTSO, and we are extremely proud of all of them.  However, representation didn’t stop at state; students in BPA, HOSA, and TSA are also representing Blanson at nationals.  Those students heading to nationals are:

  • First Place–The Architecture and Design TSA Team consisting of Seniors Ali Arellano, Oliver Rojas, and Rubi Turcios and Sophomore Guillermo Rodriguez.
  • Third Place–The Community Awareness HOSA  Team consisting of Sophomores Dominique Morillo, Renee Rinosa, Maria Urrutia, and Maria Velasco.
  • First Place–Speaking Skills HOSA Senior Jacob Flores.
  • Fourth Place Advanced Processing BPA Junior Long Vo.
  • BPA State Alternates–  Long  Vo (Administrative Support), Noe McClendon (Banking & Finance), Steven Barrios (Fundamental Word Processing), Litzy Mejia-Moreno (Basic Office Systems & Procedures), Jester Santos Urbina (Administrative Support Team), and Osbiel Sanchez (JAVA Programming)
