District Celebrates Assistant Principals During MVP-Themed Appreciation Week, April 6–10
Daily themes, campus activities, and a month-long step challenge put the district’s assistant principals in the spotlight.
They walk the hallways before the first bell rings and stay long after the last student boards the bus. They mediate, motivate, mentor, and manage — often all before lunch. This week, Aldine ISD is making sure they know how much they are valued.
The district is celebrating Assistant Principal Appreciation Week from April 6–10, 2026, with a campuswide MVP theme, daily dress-up days, and activities honoring the assistant principals who help keep Aldine ISD’s schools running every day.
“I have a deep appreciation for what assistant principals carry every day,” said Keshia LaVergne, Aldine ISD director of leadership development. “They walk into buildings before anyone else arrives and leave after most have gone home. They know every student by name, they support their teachers, and they back up their principals — all while quietly shaping the culture of their campus. During AP Week, we want every assistant principal in Aldine ISD to feel seen, celebrated, and reminded of the incredible difference they make in the lives of our students and our community.”
A Week Fit for MVPs
Each day of the week carries its own theme and activity:
Monday, April 6 — The Starting Lineup: Kick off the week in school colors or mascot gear. Principals post a “Starting Lineup” graphic on social media featuring assistant principals.
Tuesday, April 7 — Draft Day: Assistant principals suit up in professional dress while students show their appreciation by completing Kudos Cards honoring their APs.
Wednesday, April 8 — Hydration Hustle: The week’s midpoint calls for workout wear — joggers, sweatbands, and all — and a Hydration Station stocked with Sonic drinks and a simple message: thanks for the hustle.
Thursday, April 9 — Jersey Day: Staff and APs alike don their favorite sports jerseys or team shirts. Teachers are invited to record video cheers for their assistant principals and share them on social media using the hashtags #AISDAPWeek2026, #AISD_AP_MVP, and #AldineStory.
Friday, April 10 — Championship Day: The week wraps up with victory wear — hats, championship shirts, medals — and a Breakfast of Champions featuring breakfast tacos or chicken biscuits. It is also the first prize day for the April Step Challenge.
The Pedometer Pursuit: A Month-Long Step Challenge
The celebration continues as Leadership Development partners with Health Navigator Nurse Angela Castillo for an April Step Challenge for assistant principals, ending April 30.
Each Friday at noon, the top 10 steppers are recognized in a Step Chat Group, with a weekly health tip shared. Prizes on April 10, 17, and 24 include a Golden Sneaker trophy for the top stepper and $10 gift cards for others.
The grand prize on April 30 includes an MVP Swag Bag filled with goodies and gift cards, plus a Time Out Voucher — a certificate for a long lunch or early leave, with the director of leadership development personally offering to cover campus duties for the winner.
Already in Motion
Leadership Development will recognize assistant principals at the April AP Core meeting, setting the tone for a week of well-deserved recognition.
