A partnership between Blanson CTE High School, Aldine ISD and the Supply Chain & Logistics Technology Program in the College of Technology at the University of Houston will enable students in the Distribution & Logistics program at Blanson to receive international certifications from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). CILT is the oldest international transportation and logistics organization in the world. The partnership was announced on Tuesday, December 8th. Funding for the program was provided through the Port of Houston Community Grants Program.
Thirty-two juniors and seniors from Blanson CTE will take part in the program. The students were selected from the Distribution and Logistics program at Blanson. This is the first time the University of Houston in partnership with CILT has offered this program.
Shawn Bingham, Distribution and Logistics teacher at Blanson, said, “I am so happy that the students in my program will have this opportunity to grow in knowledge and experience. This partnership will help make Blanson one of the premier CTE high schools in the Houston area.”
Margaret Kidd, Program Director, Supply Chain & Logistics Technology, College of Technology, University of Houston said, “Our goal is to close the skills gap in a region that has become Americas Global Logistics Hub. By addressing gaps in skill sets and focusing on filling those gaps, our K-12, community college and university students, not only become more marketable at multiple scales, but more saliently, have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. Applying the power of technology and innovation toward solving real world challenges is what fuels us in the College of Technology,”
Students who complete the program will receive a certificate credentialed by CILT for Introduction to Logistics, Introduction to Business Communication and Transportation Distribution in Logistics.
